Some Things Get More Beautiful After They Fall Apart
We spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to keep things intact.
Clean walls.
Perfect flowers.
Uncracked surfaces.
Everything polished enough to pretend time isn't happening.
And then gothic art walks in and basically says: nah.
Give me the ruined cathedral.
The dying roses.
The raven that looks like it knows something you don't.
The moth quietly eating whatever was supposed to survive forever.
Maybe that's why I like this kind of imagery.
It doesn't ask decay to hide.
It makes decay part of the decoration.
Which is a much more interesting way to look at things.
Because nothing stays untouched.
Buildings crumble.
Flowers die.
People change.
Even the shit we swear we'll keep forever eventually becomes somebody else's weird antique.
Maybe beauty was never supposed to mean untouched.
Maybe sometimes the cracks, stains, shadows and missing pieces are the entire reason something becomes interesting.
This pattern is basically that idea with absolutely no intention of behaving itself.
Ravens. Moths. Roses. Cathedral ruins. Victorian fragments. Layers of black, white and distressed grunge all fighting for space.
And somehow the mess works.
