Last Responder: Because Eventually Someone Has to Close the Ticket

First responders get all the glory.
They arrive first. They save the day. They get sirens, flashing lights, dramatic television shows and approximately nine million inspirational T-shirts.
But nobody talks about the last responder.
The guy who arrives when the situation has progressed slightly beyond “Can we fix this?”
That’s where our friend with the scythe comes in.
There is something wonderfully efficient about the Grim Reaper.
No forms. No follow-up appointment. No “we’ll circle back next week.”
Just one extremely permanent resolution.
Which is probably why I like the idea of calling him the Last Responder.
Because technically, he is.
Life is full of people trying to fix things.
Doctors fix bodies. Mechanics fix cars. Therapists fix whatever the rest of us did to ourselves while pretending everything was fine.
And then eventually there is one problem nobody fixes.
That sounds depressing when you write it like that.
So naturally, I put it on merch.
Because dark humor has always been humanity’s slightly inappropriate way of looking directly at something uncomfortable and saying: Yeah. That’s horrifying. Anyway… that’s kind of funny.
And maybe that is the entire point.
We spend an enormous amount of time pretending death is some bizarre administrative error that happens exclusively to other people.
Meanwhile, the Last Responder is somewhere patiently waiting.
Probably understaffed. Definitely overbooked. And absolutely undefeated.
Morbid? A little.
But if we have to participate in this ridiculous temporary experiment called being alive, we might as well develop a sense of humor about the ending.
If the Last Responder is exactly your kind of inappropriate, you can find the design on Redbubble
